What is the best age to start hormone replacement therapy?
There is not a specific age to begin hormone replacement therapy (HRT), but women tend to experience the greatest benefits when they start during perimenopause or within ten years of onset of menopause. Some women may still experience benefits when initiating HRT beyond ten years post menopause.
Together, we will take the time to determine what is right for you, as it is important to me that you feel heard throughout this process.

Do you manage men's hormones?
Yes. I manage men’s testosterone replacement therapy (TRT); however, I strongly prefer to manage men as part of a couple.
When providing TRT, I ensure estrogen levels remain within optimal ranges.
I have successfully cared for numerous couples, addressing the needs of both partners effectively.

Why should I use vaginal estrogen when I use a daily topical estrogen?
Vaginal estrogen protects your vaginal tissue from atrophy, helps prevent pelvic floor prolapse, helps prevent or reverse stress incontinence, decreases risk of UTIs, and help prevent bacterial vaginosis.
-
Once I start hormone replacement therapy, do I have to stay on it for life?
The research is clear that hormone replacement therapy (HRT) offers numerous long-term advantages for cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological, bone health, and endocrine health when administered for a minimum of ten years. While some women opt to stop HRT at age 65, others may decide to continue it for life. Each woman’s experience is distinct, warranting personalized care that emphasizes collaborative decision making.
-
Is hormone replacement therapy safe?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) saw a dramatic decline in use following the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative announcement that erroneously associated it with increased risks of breast cancer and heart disease. However, subsequent research provides a wealth of evidence that confirms HRT is both safe and effective for most women.
If a woman has a cancer diagnosis, it does not necessarily disqualify her from being a candidate for HRT. However, it does require a more nuanced conversation to assess eligibility and potential risks. As an Oncology Certified Nurse, Dana is skilled in this area and can guide you through this complex decision-making process.
Women experience symptoms when hormones are too low, too high, or imbalanced. Achieving optimized and balanced hormone levels provide many short- and long-term health benefits, enhancing overall well-being and quality of life.

Is it too late to start hormone therapy after age 65?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be a good option for most women over age 65, despite concerns about safety. It is important to evaluate the benefits versus risks and consider individual health criteria when deciding whether to use hormone therapy after age 65.
Recent studies show that those fears may be unfounded, depending on the type, route, and dose of HRT.

Are the hormones bioidentical and how long till I feel better?
Yes. We prescribe compounded bioidentical hormones that are effective, natural, and customized to your needs.
Most individuals feel better between 2 weeks to 3 months. If dose adjustments are needed, it can take longer. Be patient with your body as it is restoring and filling hormone receptor sites.
